Believe it or not, there are foods deemed healthy that are not the healthiest for you to eat. There are the obvious foods such as those with a high amount of salt or sugar, and then there are the not-so-obvious ones. The sad fact of the matter is that there so-called “healthy foods” you should consider avoiding. Here are some “healthy foods” to avoid for better weight loss and overall health.

Energy Bars

Energy bars, as popular as they are, are actually very unhealthy. The people who figured out how to market this product to the world succeeded. Why? Most of the energy bars on the market have more sugar and calories than most of the candy bars available for purchase. What makes energy bars so unhealthy? They are made up mostly of processed chemicals, and we all know how bad processed foods can be for your health.

Instant Oatmeal

Many people think that instant oatmeal is a healthy option because it is oatmeal that is topped with berries, nuts, and other goodies. If you like flavored instant oatmeal, you are really in a bad spot. Flavored instant oatmeal packets contain more sodium and sugar than regular oats. You are better off eating regular oatmeal, then adding fresh fruit to it for flavoring.

Did you ever think that multigrain bread would be on a list of foods to avoid for healthy skin and hair? We didn’t either, but multigrain bread is problematic. Always read the label. If multigrain bread has refined flour, it’s likely that there isn’t any whole grain in it. This bread is usually made of refined grain, which cuts down on the fiber and causes you to crave more of it. 

Reduced-Fat Peanut Butter

Reduced-fat peanut butter is also a problem when trying to improve your health. In fact, manufacturers of reduced-fat peanut butter add sugar to make up for the lack of flavor in the product. This means that you can enjoy a spoonful or two of regular peanut butter instead of reduced-fat peanut butter and not worry about it.

Farm-Raised Fish

Do you love to eat seafood? Be careful where and how you purchase it because farm-raised fish is definitely one of the foods to avoid. Of all the farm-raised fish, stay away from salmon. Most farm-raised salmon contains pesticides, which are not good for your health.

Rice Crackers

Do you enjoy snacking on rice crackers at work or school? Have you replaced other unhealthy snacks with them? If so, you might want to reconsider eating them. Rice crackers are dense in carbs and contain a high amount of sodium. A rice cracker that has no flavor weighs nine grams but is 80 percent carbohydrate.
