South Florida Health Statistics That Will Shock You

South Florida Health Statistics that will Shock You Main Image

Are you familiar with South Florida health statistics? South Florida isn’t just the home of sunshine, beaches, and non-stop nightlife. If you live in Miami-Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach County, you live in 3 of the top 10 healthiest counties in the state – but what does that actually mean?

How Healthy is South Florida?

The Sun-Sentinel reported recently that all three South Florida counties ranked in the top 10 healthiest counties in Florida – a feat that was last achieved 9 years ago. Miami-Dade jumped to 5th place from 23rd, Palm Beach ranked 8th for the second year in a row, and Broward moved to 10th place from last year’s 19th ranking.

Above average access to healthy food and decreased smoking rates amongst all three counties account for a few of the factors that are earning South Florida the reputation as a healthy city – but we still have a long way to go.

Obesity Rates in South Florida

The average adult obesity rate for Florida is 26%. For image-conscious, this is one of the most shocking South Florida health statistics.

  • Miami-Dade County – 21% of adults are obese
  • Broward County – 25% of adults are obese
  • Palm Beach County – 22% adults are obese

Obesity puts individuals at higher risks of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and a number of other major health issues. But being overweight isn’t just dangerous for your health, it’s hurting your wallet too. A study found that obese individuals pay on average 42% more in healthcare costs than those at a healthy weight.

Why are South Floridians overweight? According to a study conducted by the Center for Disease Control, only 22.1% of adults in Miami-Dade were noted as eating enough fruits and vegetables as per government guidelines. Add more vegetables to your diet, cut down your pork consumption, and increase your physical activity.

If you still can’t shed the extra pounds, a weight loss IV treatment might be the ideal supplement to your efforts. This IV treatment delivers metabolism-boosting, fat-burning, and energy-increasing vitamins, minerals, nutrients, and amino acids directly into the bloodstream for incredible results.

Drinking Rates in South Florida

How does South Florida compare to the state with excessive drinking rates? Not too bad, actually. In fact, party-central South Florida matches the state average of 18% of adults who report participating in binge drinking or excessive drinking.

  • Miami-Dade County – 17%
  • Broward County – 18%
  • Palm Beach County – 19%

What is binge drinking? The answer differs by gender. For a woman, it’s consuming four or more drinks within two hours; for men, it’s five or more drinks within two hours. This is most common for 18-34 year olds.

Binge drinking costs you more than just a hangover, direct long terms effects include high blood pressure, cancer (alcohol is a known carcinogen) and memory loss, to name a few. Eliminating alcohol from your lifestyle may not be realistic, but drinking in moderation will lessen the negative effects. You can also pair this with regular intravenous detoxes to flush toxins from your liver and deliver vitamins and nutrients to your other vital organs. If you find yourself feeling sluggish, a Detox Fusion is a fantastic way to mitigate the impact of a wild night out.

Insufficient Sleep Rates in South Florida

Do you find yourself tired most days? You’re not alone. According to the National Sleep Foundation, the recommended hours of rest for adults is between 7 and 9 hours. Meanwhile, 34% of Floridians report getting 7 or fewer hours of sleep on average, as do nearly a third of South Florida residents

  • 33% of Miami-Dade residents get less than 7 hours of sleep
  • 37% of Broward residents get less than 7 hours of sleep
  • 37% of Palm Beach residents get less than 7 hours of sleep

Sleep is crucial in the growth, repair, and maintenance of the body. Lack of sleep has been linked to numerous health conditions such as heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, and stroke. Besides the obvious negative health implications, driving while sleepy is similar to driving under the influence. Don’t have time to get a solid 8 hours of shut-eye? You can beat tiredness and restore your body’s overall well-being with immunity & wellness IV treatments. These amazingly simple treatments can jumpstart your body’s immune system and get your body functioning at top capacity.
